# Introducing a new way to receive and transfer calls with your voice bot

Your bot is now able to receive and transfer phone calls using a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) address rather than using a phone number.

### What is SIP?

SIP is a modern protocol used for managing communication sessions over the internet.

* When a bot receives a phone call using a SIP address that means it is receiving the call over the internet, versus when it receives a phone call using a phone number it is receiving the call over traditional phone lines.
* Same with when it transfers a call to a SIP address versus a phone number.

### What is a SIP address?

A SIP address is like an email address for making phone calls over the internet. It includes a username and domain.

### What are the benefits of using SIP?

Using a SIP address to receive and transfer phone calls can have several benefits:

* More cost efficient
* Ability to pass metadata when receiving a call or escalating a call
* More modern technology

### Get started with SIP

* To get started enabling SIP in your bot, go to **Settings** > **Integrations** and click on the **Configure** button for your Phone integration.
